A very interesting website on Japan. What’s cool about Japan? If you check out the website, you will find out!
Aya here (:
I’d like to dedicate this post to my best friend, Yuka. Take it as a wiki page about her. By the time you finish reading this post, you’ll know how she’s beautiful inside and out (: Let’s talk briefly about the outside first. She has normal height, natural brown hair that she wants to turn black, sleepy eyes, beautiful hands and a very skinny body. I love her hands…she has pretty nails too. My hands are pretty much non-existent so I envy her.
Yuka was born and raised in the same city all her life and I guess that explains why she seeks for adventure once in a while. She’s real life Tintin (I hope you see the reference Yuka) and isn’t afraid to try out new things.
“God made us best friends because He knew our Mums couldn’t handle us as sisters”
As much as the two of us have similarities, we have a lot of differences as well. There were times (especially in our senior year) when we had serious fights where it made us rethink our friendship. We’re both pretty emotional but Yuka tends to keep things to herself while I tend to speak straight from my mind.
I sometimes wish that I had some sort of magical power to read her mind…it can be really hard to guess at times. But then I realize how this is part of our friendship and that I have to make my way to her for her to open up with me. She once told me on a random train ride home that I changed her for the better. Words can’t explain how I felt then.
I was just thinking. What does Yuka like? Let me try and list a few things…
– Airplanes, airports, air anything
– The number 17
– Her pet dog (he can be violent…)
– Ice cream
– Vegetables (onions especially)
– This one marble bread from Lawson
– The colour blue and brown
– Her iPhone
– Warm clothes and hoodies
– Simple jewelery
– Blond hair, blue eyes
– Peter Pan
– Grapefruit perfume
– Brushing her teeth
– Intense roller coasters
There is a lot more but I’ll stop here for now…
Yuka and I can be two very different people. She’s more of a sci-tech type while I’m artsy, she gets work done quickly while I take forever and she’s tidy while I’m a complete mess. I think this is why we hardly had any classes together in high school, but I remember how we somehow made sure that we had at least one class together every year and we took part in a lot of school activities together. We were the senior editors for our school year book this year and this is when I was really surprised at how Yuka gets work done so quickly…we were inserting photos into the pages and when I got through 5 people, she was done with 15. Also when we were volunteering over the summer at school, we had to put 200-300 books in alphabetical order and while I went through1 pile she went through 3. Really, I have NO IDEA how she does it but…she just does.
She also modeled for me for one of my art pieces (: I originally wasn’t planning to conduct a photo shoot so I made the dress using the measurements of a mannequin. But Yuka actually wore the dress for me…I mean she was the only person who fit in it but still, she kept up with my awful photo shoot skills and survived in the tight dress for an hour or so…
The funny thing about Yuka is that she seeks for adventure and puts things to action…BUT she hates decision making. When it comes to decision making this is all she says: “I don’t mind”. I sometimes feel as if I’m making her do things and that I’m taking over so I ask and ask and ask what she wants. It’s so intense that we even got in to a fight once because we couldn’t decide. Talking about fights, there was a time when I didn’t know how I was supposed to act around Yuka and I asked a friend why I kept feeling this way. She gave me this great advice so I’ll share.
“No one is perfect and there is no such thing as a perfect match when it comes to friendship. The reason you two are best friends is because you two complete each other. Even though you might have something that you just can’t agree on, it’s just that one thing. Just be proud of what you two have, be positive.”
One of the things I love about Yuka is how she writes down how she feels once in a while. While we’re currently in a world full of technology, she writes letters to me, some random, some serious. There was a letter where for the first time she addressed me as her best friend. She also promised me on the letter that she will keep me happy forever. Really. It was like a proposal…I think it was the first time I cried by reading a letter…
Yuka is my best friend, but she is also my second mum, sister, partner and other half. She can be anything and everything (: I know that was reaaaaally cheesy…but I’m sure you all get what I want to say! I have more secrets to expose…so stay tuned!
Lots of love,
P.s. I love you so much Yuka!! Thank you always.
Hello again, it’s Aya (:
So, about my past travels. Luckily I was born to a family where my mother LOVES to travel and having a big family, my relatives live around the world. I guess this was one of the things that allowed me to travel quite a lot as well. Here comes my list:
Japan, Taiwan, France, Guam, UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Denmark, China and Macau.
No…I have NEVER been to the US…crazy eh? I’m still planning to add more to this list, and the US will definitely be in there soon. I get to intern twice in university and I’m considering somewhere around New York or Boston. But from this list so far, my most memorable journeys were France and Guam.
Ever since I was born to until middle school, I visited my Grandmother in France every summer and maybe even spring if I was lucky. When I was small, it had become a sort of tradition to go to France in the summer and then either Taiwan or Hong Kong in the Winter. I used to stay in France for about 2 months each year and I can see that it has influenced my life a lot. By loving France, it made me love Europe and I guess this was one of the factors that influenced me to choose my university.
I used to play around in the garden with my baby brother for most of the day or went to pool parties with my friends there. She lives just outside Paris, so for most evenings we went out to get dinner there. I have several places I love in France and one would definitely be Tower Eiffel. After sunset every day, at each hour Tower Eiffel Sparkles for 5 minutes and as a girl who loved and still loves sparkly and glittery things, I found it the most beautiful moment on earth.
Other places I love are…
Claude Monet’s Garden at Giverny
Every time I visit this place, I can feel how his paintings are alive and its also fun to have some pictures of his paintings and search for the places he actually painted them from.
I have confession to make. I absolutely love, love, LOVE, Disneyland. I just love it so much and Disneyland Paris is my favourite out of the all because their castle is pink. Well, I do have more reasons but the castle takes up most of it. Heres my mini fact: The castle in Disneyland Paris is pink because it belongs to Sleeping beauty while the castles in the US and Japan are white because they belong to Cinderella. Pretty right?
France is full of beautiful historical sites and castles but it would be impossible to cover all of them in one trip. But in this amusement park, you can see most of France in a 1/30 scale.
Palace of Versailles
I loved nearly every princess in every Disney movie as a child but having a mother who loves history as well, I was fascinated by real life princesses in history such as Marie Antoinette and Princess Sissi (Empress Elisabeth of Austria). I loved the detailed art and the large gardens. My favourite place in the palace was definitely the hall of mirrors from all the sparkly chandeliers.
As an art student, this is a place you definitely have to visit when you go to France. Although its way too huge to go through in one day, the art there is amazing and the food court as well.
I’ve only gone to Guam twice in my life, but it never fails to fascinate me. It was the first place I visited that had a clear ocean, and ocean that was literally see through and you could just see the fishes swimming in there. The first time I went there, I spent every single day just playing around at the beach and snorkeling and the second time, mostly shopping.
I’d say the best way to spend your time there is stay at the beach until sunset, go shopping in the afternoon if you feel like it and then go for midnight pizza and supermarket shopping at K Mart. I just love K Mart.
Two Lovers Point
This is the only place I went sightseeing in Guam and it was definitely worth the drive. “The Two Lovers Point is a cliffline in Northern Guam and is the site of an ancient Chamorro legend. The legend tells of two lovers who, forbidden from being together in life, leaped to their deaths from the cliffside so they could be together in eternity.” There are all these locks left by couples as a memory and its quite fun to just read some of the promises the couples made (:
This place is also a famous wedding venue since this cliffline is known as the symbol of eternal love (: A great place to have a wedding for people who love the sea and ancient history!
I’d like to write more about my past travels sometime soon but this it for now (: Please feel free to follow our blog and to leave any comments or feedback!
Lots of love,
Hello! This is Yuka. I’m going to be honest with you guys…i confess that my writing skill is crap. No jokes. You guys can go ask my English teacher and i’m pretty sure that she will agree with me. However, the weird thing is, is that I like to write (as long as they are not assignments that require us to write under time constraints and on a topic which I don’t even want to write about.) Ok. I should stop blabbing about my writing skills…but I’m really excited about this blog. I get to share my thoughts and experiences with you and I think its a great way to stay in touch with my best friend who will be living somewhere far…far…far… away from me.
Anyways, I’m really excited about university. Just being able to experience living in a new country…in a different culture with new people makes me excited about the four years to come. However, I know I will end up being home sick. Where ever I end up living in the future, Japan will always be my home and the friends I made in high school will forever be my friends. Since Aya listed some things she is worried about…i will do the same…
1. Will I be able to survive the winter in Boston?
2. Will I be able to make friends?
3. What shall I do with my laundry…
4. What clubs shall I join?
I have more…many more worries but the ones listed above are the main worries I have!
Anyways, I’ve got to go study for a big big big test that’s coming up in two days!
Wish me luck! and please follow our blog if you like it 🙂
