Surprise!

Hi everyone (: Aya here! I just wanted to make a quick post about a recent baking session I had on friday.
So, why did I decide to bake when I don’t even have school? Someones birthday? Nope. An anniversary? Nope. Celebration? Ahh, yes (:

Another advice I was given to get ready for university was to do the things I’ve always wanted to do before and one of them was to spell out a message for someone using cupcakes (: Who did I bake for? Of course, for my one and only Yuka! She finished all her tests on friday so I decided to bake and sneak in to her house with her mums help to set it up in the kitchen (: I took some photos of my process so here it goes!

Baking #3

I started off by mixing one pack of some simple cake mix and then separated the mix into three small bowls inorder to make different flavours. I kept one plain but for the other two I mixed white cocoa powder in to one and chocolate and almond into the other. Some thing I kept in mind was to mix in the chocolate right before I put the mix in to separate cups since it melts very easily.

Baking #4Off to the oven! I pre-heated it in 170 degrees celsius and baked it for 20-25 min. For the last 5 min, I just stood in front of the oven to check that it won’t burn…

Baking #5

Baking #6For some weird reason the white cocoa powder cupcakes turned brown…I really freaked out…according to Yuka it tasted fine though…

Baking #7

After that I placed them in lines to make sure I have enough and just used a thin tip for the pink icing to spell out the letters! Cutting off the icing was a little hard…but I managed! For the heart, I used small decoration sugar pieces (:

I had an idea to place the cupcakes, but there wasn’t enough space…but since it was pretty cute, I’ll share! What I did here was that I got a huge round plate and placed cute paper napkins in a criss cross pattern and places the cupcakes on top (:

Baking #8

I think it’s cuter when you choose bright coloured or patterned paper napkins to contrast your cupcakes!

I hope you all liked my simple surprise. Really, surprises are worth doing once in a while. The process and the outcome are both fun! I loved Yuka’s reaction (:

Lots of love,
Aya

Getting Ready

Hey guys! It’s Aya again.
Please excuse Yuka since she has been studying like craaaaazy for her chemistry exam! She’s going to be done with everything tomorrow so please wish her luck (:

For motivation I’d like to share these cute chemistry related cupcakes from FoodBeast! I’m loving the idea.

I wish my baking skills were as good as this…

Moving on, I’d like talk about getting ready for university/college. Our school counselor gave us a lot of advice so I’ll be sharing them bit by bit on our blog. My topic today is getting ready to leave your house and home country. I’m going to be an international student, so I’m currently getting ready to not only leave my family and friends but my home country  as well, where I’ve lived in all my life. Here’s the advice I was given for this:

1. Make a list of your favourite foods and places and make sure you visit all of them before you leave.
2. Take photos of all these things and places. Even though you may feel that you will never forget them, you will.
3. Make a photo book with all these photos to take with you to university.

Quite simple and easy right? I’ve been visiting places I’ll miss and in fact I visited one of the amusement parks that are on my list today. I’m also getting my photo book ready and I have several different versions, like one for family and friends and another for food and places. The two websites I’ve been considering to make my photo books on are Blurb and Lulu. Just click the links if you’re interested!

I’ll finish short today. For students surviving exams at the moment, good luck and for everyone else, enjoy your day (:

Lots of love,
Aya
