Missing in Action

Hello Summer! Hello Freedom (:

Sorry for not updating for ages everyone…Yuka and I have been very very busy recently and I have a lot of stories and photos to show everyone!! We’ve both travelled a lot in the past month or so and it’s hard to choose where to start. So I’ve decided to start off by explaining why I’ve been so busy.

First of all, we both graduated high school! FINALLY. A perfect word for how I feel right now (: Heres a photo of us right before graduation when we were taking family photos. I just realized how my teeth are aligned like a rabbit’s teeth…and I have a double chin here…sorry I had a moment there. haha. The reason I chose to add this photo was because I wanted to show everyone what I got for Yuka as a graduation present (: It took SO MUCH TIME to choose what to get for her. I wanted to get something that would mean to us and something that would actually relate to us graduation high school. And guess what came to mind, this blog, our blog. So I decided to get name necklaces but with the words “Avenir” and “Voyage”. When I was in elementary, best friend necklaces were a big trend so these necklaces meant something similar to me. I got “Avenir” and Yuka got “Voyage”. I did ask her beforehand but I knew she would want voyage anyways (: Telepathy guys…telepathy…

Necklace

Balloons
This is me right after we threw our hats and was blessed by flowers and gifts (: It was definitely a moment when I felt so loved by everyone and I wanted to thank each person for their love and support all these years. Without everyone I wouldn’t have been able to graduate high school! I was amazed when I found my family with my relatives, Yuka’s family, the first friends I ever had (they’re cute twins), juniors, people who have already graduated and even my brothers girlfriends just there at the gym for me, to be with us fr such a special moment. I’d say my highlight of the day was when marching into the gymnasium (I thought I would cry but really, I was way too nervous to even think about crying), performing at an interlude and hugging Yuka right after we threw our hats. Yuka and I were in the same row but with a few seats apart so when we had to go up stage I just “casually “stood next to her. I felt relieved that night and just couldn’t get over the feeling of being blessed and I was seeing stars and rainbows everywhere. Really, I was in lalaland. haha.

Flowers and Gifts
My mum seemed to really enjoy putting all the flowers in to different vases and just changing our house in to a garden…(:

So now that I’ve finished my update/graduation post I have lot’s more to write about! I’ve travelled to at least…3 places that I could talk about. Some close, some far (: I think I’ll start with the senior trip I went to with my whole grade! Look forward to my next post.

Lots of love,
Aya

Surprise!

Hi everyone (: Aya here! I just wanted to make a quick post about a recent baking session I had on friday.
So, why did I decide to bake when I don’t even have school? Someones birthday? Nope. An anniversary? Nope. Celebration? Ahh, yes (:

Another advice I was given to get ready for university was to do the things I’ve always wanted to do before and one of them was to spell out a message for someone using cupcakes (: Who did I bake for? Of course, for my one and only Yuka! She finished all her tests on friday so I decided to bake and sneak in to her house with her mums help to set it up in the kitchen (: I took some photos of my process so here it goes!

Baking #1

Baking #2

Baking #3

I started off by mixing one pack of some simple cake mix and then separated the mix into three small bowls inorder to make different flavours. I kept one plain but for the other two I mixed white cocoa powder in to one and chocolate and almond into the other. Some thing I kept in mind was to mix in the chocolate right before I put the mix in to separate cups since it melts very easily.

Baking #4Off to the oven! I pre-heated it in 170 degrees celsius and baked it for 20-25 min. For the last 5 min, I just stood in front of the oven to check that it won’t burn…

Baking #5

Baking #6For some weird reason the white cocoa powder cupcakes turned brown…I really freaked out…according to Yuka it tasted fine though…

Baking #7

After that I placed them in lines to make sure I have enough and just used a thin tip for the pink icing to spell out the letters! Cutting off the icing was a little hard…but I managed! For the heart, I used small decoration sugar pieces (:

I had an idea to place the cupcakes, but there wasn’t enough space…but since it was pretty cute, I’ll share! What I did here was that I got a huge round plate and placed cute paper napkins in a criss cross pattern and places the cupcakes on top (:

Baking #8

I think it’s cuter when you choose bright coloured or patterned paper napkins to contrast your cupcakes!

I hope you all liked my simple surprise. Really, surprises are worth doing once in a while. The process and the outcome are both fun! I loved Yuka’s reaction (:

Lots of love,
Aya

Getting Ready

Hey guys! It’s Aya again.
Please excuse Yuka since she has been studying like craaaaazy for her chemistry exam! She’s going to be done with everything tomorrow so please wish her luck (:

For motivation I’d like to share these cute chemistry related cupcakes from FoodBeast! I’m loving the idea.

I wish my baking skills were as good as this…

Moving on, I’d like talk about getting ready for university/college. Our school counselor gave us a lot of advice so I’ll be sharing them bit by bit on our blog. My topic today is getting ready to leave your house and home country. I’m going to be an international student, so I’m currently getting ready to not only leave my family and friends but my home country  as well, where I’ve lived in all my life. Here’s the advice I was given for this:

1. Make a list of your favourite foods and places and make sure you visit all of them before you leave.
2. Take photos of all these things and places. Even though you may feel that you will never forget them, you will.
3. Make a photo book with all these photos to take with you to university.

Quite simple and easy right? I’ve been visiting places I’ll miss and in fact I visited one of the amusement parks that are on my list today. I’m also getting my photo book ready and I have several different versions, like one for family and friends and another for food and places. The two websites I’ve been considering to make my photo books on are Blurb and Lulu. Just click the links if you’re interested!

I’ll finish short today. For students surviving exams at the moment, good luck and for everyone else, enjoy your day (:

Lots of love,
Aya

Beautiful Inside and Out

Aya here (:
I’d like to dedicate this post to my best friend, Yuka. Take it as a wiki page about her. By the time you finish reading this post, you’ll know how she’s beautiful inside and out (: Let’s talk briefly about the outside first. She has normal height, natural brown hair that she wants to turn black, sleepy eyes, beautiful hands and a very skinny body. I love her hands…she has pretty nails too. My hands are pretty much non-existent so I envy her.

Yuka was born and raised in the same city all her life and I guess that explains why she seeks for adventure once in a while. She’s real life Tintin (I hope you see the reference Yuka) and isn’t afraid to try out new things.

“God made us best friends because He knew our Mums couldn’t handle us as sisters”

As much as the two of us have similarities, we have a lot of differences as well. There were times (especially in our senior year) when we had serious fights where it made us rethink our friendship. We’re both pretty emotional but Yuka tends to keep things to herself while I tend to speak straight from my mind.

I sometimes wish that I had some sort of magical power to read her mind…it can be really hard to guess at times. But then I realize how this is part of our friendship and that I have to make my way to her for her to open up with me. She once told me on a random train ride home that I changed her for the better. Words can’t explain how I felt then.

BFF

I was just thinking. What does Yuka like? Let me try and list a few things…

– Airplanes, airports, air anything
– The number 17
– Her pet dog (he can be violent…)
– Ice cream
– Vegetables (onions especially)
– This one marble bread from Lawson
– The colour blue and brown
– Her iPhone
– Beach
– Warm clothes and hoodies
– Simple jewelery
– Blond hair, blue eyes
– Peter Pan
– Amsterdam
– Grapefruit perfume
– Brushing her teeth
– Intense roller coasters

There is a lot more but I’ll stop here for now…

Yuka and I can be two very different people. She’s more of a sci-tech type while I’m artsy, she gets work done quickly while I take forever and she’s tidy while I’m a complete mess. I think this is why we hardly had any classes together in high school, but I remember how we somehow made sure that we had at least one class together every year and we took part in a lot of school activities together. We were the senior editors for our school year book this year and this is when I was really surprised at how Yuka gets work done so quickly…we were inserting photos into the pages and when I got through 5 people, she was done with 15. Also when we were volunteering over the summer at school, we had to put 200-300 books in alphabetical order and while I went through1 pile she went through 3. Really, I have NO IDEA how she does it but…she just does.

She also modeled for me for one of my art pieces (: I originally wasn’t planning to conduct a photo shoot so I made the dress using the measurements of a mannequin. But Yuka actually wore the dress for me…I mean she was the only person who fit in it but still, she kept up with my awful photo shoot skills and survived in the tight dress for an hour or so…

Casablanca Fee

The funny thing about Yuka is that she seeks for adventure and puts things to action…BUT she hates decision making. When it comes to decision making this is all she says: “I don’t mind”. I sometimes feel as if I’m making her do things and that I’m taking over so I ask and ask and ask what she wants. It’s so intense that we even got in to a fight once because we couldn’t decide. Talking about fights, there was a time when I didn’t know how I was supposed to act around Yuka and I asked a friend why I kept feeling this way. She gave me this great advice so I’ll share.

“No one is perfect and there is no such thing as a perfect match when it comes to friendship. The reason you two are best friends is because you two complete each other. Even though you might have something that you just can’t agree on, it’s just that one thing. Just be proud of what you two have, be positive.”

One of the things I love about Yuka is how she writes down how she feels once in a while. While we’re currently in a world full of technology, she writes letters to me, some random, some serious. There was a letter where for the first time she addressed me as her best friend. She also promised me on the letter that she will keep me happy forever. Really. It was like a proposal…I think it was the first time I cried by reading a letter…

Yuka is my best friend, but she is also my second mum, sister, partner and other half. She can be anything and everything (: I know that was reaaaaally cheesy…but I’m sure you all get what I want to say! I have more secrets to expose…so stay tuned!

Lots of love,
Aya

P.s. I love you so much Yuka!! Thank you always.

Aya’s Past Travels

Hello again, it’s Aya (:
So, about my past travels. Luckily I was born to a family where my mother LOVES to travel and having a big family, my relatives live around the world. I guess this was one of the things that allowed me to travel quite a lot as well. Here comes my list:

Japan, Taiwan, France, Guam, UK, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Denmark, China and Macau.

No…I have NEVER been to the US…crazy eh? I’m still planning to add more to this list, and the US will definitely be in there soon. I get to intern twice in university and I’m considering somewhere around New York or Boston. But from this list so far, my most memorable journeys were France and Guam.

France

Ever since I was born to until middle school, I visited my Grandmother in France every summer and maybe even spring if I was lucky. When I was small, it had become a sort of tradition to go to France in the summer and then either Taiwan or Hong Kong in the Winter. I used to stay in France for about 2 months each year and I can see that it has influenced my life a lot. By loving France, it made me love Europe and I guess this was one of the factors that influenced me to choose my university.

Tower Eiffel

I used to play around in the garden with my baby brother for most of the day or went to pool parties with my friends there. She lives just outside Paris, so for most evenings we went out to get dinner there. I have several places I love in France and one would definitely be Tower Eiffel. After sunset every day, at each hour Tower Eiffel Sparkles for 5 minutes and as a girl who loved and still loves sparkly and glittery things, I found it the most beautiful moment on earth.

Other places I love are…

Claude Monet’s Garden at Giverny
Every time I visit this place, I can feel how his paintings are alive and its also fun to have some pictures of his paintings and search for the places he actually painted them from.

Monet Garden

Disneyland Paris
I have  confession to make. I absolutely love, love, LOVE, Disneyland. I just love it so much and Disneyland Paris is my favourite out of the all because their castle is pink. Well, I do have more reasons but the castle takes up most of it. Heres my mini fact: The castle in Disneyland Paris is pink because it belongs to Sleeping beauty while the castles in the US and Japan are white because they belong to Cinderella. Pretty right?

Disneyland Paris

France Miniature
France is full of beautiful historical sites and castles but it would be impossible to cover all of them in one trip. But in this amusement park, you can see most of France in a 1/30 scale.

France Miniature

Palace of Versailles
I loved nearly every princess in every Disney movie as a child but having a mother who loves history as well, I was fascinated by real life princesses in history such as Marie Antoinette and Princess Sissi (Empress Elisabeth of Austria). I loved the detailed art and the large gardens. My favourite place in the palace was definitely the hall of mirrors from all the sparkly chandeliers.

Versailles Hall of Mirrors

Louvre Museum
As an art student, this is a place you definitely have to visit when you go to France. Although its way too huge to go through in one day, the art there is amazing and the food court as well.

Pyramid at Louvre Museum

Guam

I’ve only gone to Guam twice in my life, but it never fails to fascinate me. It was the first place I visited that had a clear ocean, and ocean that was literally see through and you could just see the fishes swimming in there. The first time I went there, I spent every single day just playing around at the beach and snorkeling and the second time, mostly shopping.

Hilton Guam

I’d say the best way to spend your time there is stay at the beach until sunset, go shopping in the afternoon if you feel like it and then go for midnight pizza and supermarket shopping at K Mart. I just love K Mart.

Two Lovers Point

Two Lovers Point
This is the only place I went sightseeing in Guam and it was definitely worth the drive. “The Two Lovers Point is a cliffline in Northern Guam and is the site of an ancient Chamorro legend. The legend tells of two lovers who, forbidden from being together in life, leaped to their deaths from the cliffside so they could be together in eternity.” There are all these locks left by couples as a memory and its quite fun to just read some of the promises the couples made (:

Locks

This place is also a famous wedding venue since this cliffline is known as the symbol of eternal love (: A great place to have a wedding for people who love the sea and ancient history!

Beach Wedding Ring

I’d like to write more about my past travels sometime soon but this it for now (: Please feel free to follow our blog and to leave any comments or feedback!

Lots of love,
Aya

A New Chapter in Life

Hi everyone, this is Aya posting…for the very first time! I’m really excited about this and I hope to share the daily bits and bobs of my life (: Creating this travel blog is a very big accomplishment for Yuka and I since it means that we’ve now made something that will keep us updated while we’re apart.

To be very honest, we tried writing a joint diary last summer…but we lost track. However by making it “online” and being able to share it with everyone this time, I’m having a very positive feeling that this will work out, and will become a great motivation for the two of us.

The photo below is something Yuka and I recreated after seeing a similar photo on instagram. Apparently it’s an infinity mark showing the infinite frienship between two best friends. I thought this photo was somewhat suitable for our new beginning (:

Infinity

I named this post, “A new chapter in life”, because I will be facing several “new” things in life very soon. One of the new things is definitely keeping this blog updated as much as possible. I like writing casually about what is simply going on in my life and how I feel, so stay tuned! But the most important thing I will be facing soon is graduating High School and going on to university in a whole new COUNTRY.

We’re nearly done with exams and then we have our class graduation trip, prom, check out day and then graduation…all this is going to happen in less than a month! When I look back at my life so far, high school was big. I really big chapter in my life. I went through the best and worst moments with my friends and family. But then, you only realize that the end is near when it’s just around the corner.

As stated in my mini profile, I’ll be moving to Switzerland for university. Far far away from home, and far far away from Yuka. I really am VERY excited about university from moving to studying there but at the same time I can write an essay about the things that worry me. But instead of an essay I’ll make a simple list:

1. Being apart from my family and friends (which would eventually make me home sick)
2. Living in Europe (I’ve traveled a lot but only lived in one country)
3. Making new friends (the friends I have now are all my childhood friends)
4. Keeping up with school work (I already proved to myself during high school that I suck at this)
5. Cleaning up my room before I leave (you can ask Yuka about the current state of my bedroom)

These seem to be such simple problems but it’s something I’ve been working on from around spring break. I’m hoping that by opening up to my problems here will help me solve them as well!

Thank You

Mini fact: Wondering what I ordered at starbucks in the photo above? My absolute favourite, GREEN TEA LATTE.

This is about it for now (: Thank you to everyone who took interest in our travel blog, and we hope to keep everyone updated!

Lots of love,
Aya
